All Birds of a Feather requests are reviewed for approval. Exceptions may be made for reunion-type or industry non-profit groups regarding open attendance and charging.
There will also be an on-site sign up board and rooms available for topics which pop-up as the result of a presentation, general discussion or topic deemed of interest.
Birds of a Feather session requests must be submitted via the SIGGRAPH 2017 submission system before Friday, 14 July 2017. Make sure all the information in your submission is accurate and up to date. Missing information may delay processing your request.
If you are the organizer for more than one Birds of a Feather, fill out a separate online request for each event.
Birds of a Feather sessions can be no longer than three hours including set up and teardown. Organizers of longer events, or those who submit multiple requests for the same day for more than three hours, should consider becoming a co-located conference.
Birds of a Feather sessions cannot start prior to 8 am or end after 6 pm at the convention center. There is no time restriction for Birds of a Feather sessions assigned to hotels.
Birds of a Feather meeting rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served based on setup and expected attendance.
There are several SIGGRAPH 2017 Birds of a Feather rooms at The Los Angeles Convention Center. These rooms are set fishbowl (theater seats in rounds) or with rounds to encourage discussion. No changes to these setups are permitted. Maximum seating in the convention center rooms is approximately 100 people. Attendance cannot exceed capacity in any meeting rooms. Any Birds of a Feather sessions that exceeds seating capacity may be stopped by the Los Angeles Fire Marshall.
The 90-seat ACM SIGGRAPH Theater in the convention center is also available for presentations with a strong international focus that are highly relevant to the ACM SIGGRAPH organization. Audio/video equipment is provided at no charge in this room. Presentations must be approved by the International Resources Committee. If you are interested, check the appropriate box provided as you are filling out your Birds of a Feather submission and the committee will be in touch with you to verify.
If a group expects to exceed the capacities listed above, requires an alternative setup or would like to meet later than the allowed times in the convention center, select a hotel from the drop down box as the Birds of a Feather session location.
Below is a list of SIGGRAPH 2017 hotels with meeting space where Birds of a Feather sessions can be held:
Do not contact the convention center or any hotels until you have received your confirmation from SIGGRAPH 2017 Conference Management. Venues cannot assign meeting space or confirm details until this approval is received.
Meeting space in the convention center is complimentary, but limited. Some hotels may charge room rental and/or setup fees, and/or require a minimum purchase of food and beverages. SIGGRAPH 2017 Conference Management will let you know if you might incur hotel fees before your request is confirmed.
Payment for all services (food and beverage, audio/visual, etc.) is the responsibility of the Birds of a Feather Organizer.
No audio/visual is provided in the Birds of a Feather rooms. All audio/visual is the responsibility of the organizer. Organizers may provide their own, or order through the contact provided in the Birds of a Feather confirmation.
If your request is approved, you will receive an email acknowledgment within two weeks which includes all necessary contact information. Birds of a Feather sessions located in hotels will receive a confirmed room assignment at that time. Birds of a Feather sessions held in the convention center will not receive a room assignment until the week of 20 June.
All Birds of a Feather session information will be published on the SIGGRAPH 2017 website and the conference mobile app.
Birds of a Feather sesisons must be held in one of the official hotels or the Los Angeles Convention Center to be publicized. Events in other locations will not be advertised in any SIGGRAPH 2017 conference materials.
ASCAP and BMI are membership associations of US composers, songwriters, and publishers of every kind of music. Whenever music (recorded or live) is played at an event, a license must be purchased from these associations. The license purchase is the responsibility of the organizer and not the venue where the event is to be held.
Exhibitors are not eligible to use Birds of a Feather meeting rooms. Exhibitors are required to complete an exhibitor meeting space form provided by Exhibition Management. The form is available in the Exhibitor Manual.
