Disney's "Moana" was the largest and most complex water project ever attempted at Walt Disney Animation Studios, with over 900 shots requiring ocean interaction. The production team developed a lightweight implicit ocean representation coupled with a flexible authoring process for artists to visualize and edit specific features, pass those updates downstream, and automate common setups.

In Disney Pixar's "Cars 3", the characters race alongside lapping waves, on abandoned ghost tracks, and even in a raucous, muddy demolition derby. Providing a sense of believable interaction between the characters and these varied environments in over 600 shots was one of the key responsibilities of Pixar's FX team.
