This paper proposes an efficient octree-inspired method for adaptive fluids. Discretization is based on the power diagram of octree cell centers, allowing adaptivity to extend to the free surface without the drawbacks of prior octree schemes. Bandwidth-optimized octree storage structures are leveraged to improve regularity and parallel efficiency.

Most flow visualizations depend on the movement of the observe. They are not objective. This paper finds an optimal local reference frame, in which the flow appears steady. In the optimal frame, all vortex-extraction methods that are based on velocity and Jacobian become objective.

Clebsch maps encode vector fields, such as those coming from fluid simulations, in the form of a function that encapsulates information about the field in an easily accessible manner. For example, vortex lines and tubes can be found by iso-contouring. This paper provides an algorithm for finding such maps.
