VR Film Jam Submissions

New for SIGGRAPH 2017: VR Film Jam. Some regular attendees may remember FJORG! The animation marathon in which multiple teams competed to see who could create the best animated short in 32 hours. It was stressful, it was crazy, but it was great fun! The last FJORG! event was in 2009, in New Orleans.

It's time to inject a little bit of that craziness back into the SIGGRAPH experience. So teams are invited to submit their finished animated shorts, along with one-page treatments detailing how they will turn their work into an interactive VR experience. From the pool of entries, four teams will be selected to realize their VR experiences in Unreal Engine 4 with the help of the awesome team at Epic Games. The result: VR Film Jam.

The goal is to demonstrate how great linear content can be turned into great interactive VR content.

Process

  • Submit your work via the SIGGRAPH Information System.
  • Submit one video of your completed animated short and one document describing your vision for taking your short and transforming it into an interactive VR experience.
  • Each selected team will have a space with dedicated hardware at SIGGRAPH 2017 to create its VR experience.
  • The final projects will be experienced by all attendees in VR Village on Wednesday, 2 August, and Thursday, 3 August, where you will have an opportunity to answer questions about your short animation.
